My 2006 M35 Is about ready for a 60K maintenance cycle.

I do not live near an Infiniti dealership. A local repair center recommends I consider additional services... an "Induction" process and "Motorvac Fuel Injection Cleaner." He said these preventive procedures remove built up carbon in the engine. Are they necessary? Each one is estimated to cost about $240.00.

I didnt see anything about this in the owners manual. Makes me wonder if I am dealing with a reputable mechanic or someone looking to "pitch me" services I don't need.

Thank you.

just had my '06 M45 60k done--at the stealership

the line your mechanic is giving you sounds like a whole lotta bullsh*t to me

i elected not to get some of the premium services done on my car, although I had changed the oil, oil filter, engine air filter, in-cabin filter, and serpetine belts myself. I basically had them flush the radiator, change the hoses, rotate and balance the tires, and then check everything else on the premium schedule, giving me the option to have those additional items performed or not. I got out of there for about $340 and some change. It is worth going to a dealership to have electrical work done on your car since it is pretty complicated plus, you can also get a printout of the previous work/issues on your car if it had been serviced at a dealership prior to your ownership, but other regular maintenance items could be done by a competent and hopefully, honest mechanic. better yet, find a good friend who knows some stuff about cars and have him/her show you. You just need to get a hold of the field service manual and you should be good to go. search a little bit on the site and you can find a few DIYs for some of the things that cost an arm and a leg at the dealer, for example changing your in-cabin air filter.

Unless the previous owner put some crap gas in your ride or it seems to be riding kinda rough, you don't need those services. imho, i would look elsewhere.

Thanks for your feedback Craig.

Good advice.

I bought my car brand new. So, I know the history. I won't take it to these people locally. I didn't get a feeling they were being ethical. Maybe I can go back to Orlando...where I bought it...and let them do the 60K maintenance.

Thanks again,

Rod

Just add a bottle of Redline SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner every 6 months (or something similar like Gumout Regane). I used to be a fan of BG44K until they changed the formulation @ 2 years ago.

Unless you smoke in the car, there is no need to change the seat filter. And yes, you can save money by doing 'a la carte' with the 60K service (@ $350 in my case at Beshoff Infiniti-San Jose). At 90K, I did the service since car is no longer under warranty - changed belts, plugs and all fluids.
