I recently noticed that the fog light lens on the passenger side of my 2006 M35X was cracked although the surrounding bumper has no marks. Has anyone had this experience? The dealer wants about $350 to replace it and I was wondering if anyone has done this and, if so, how is it replaced? It appears that the plastic grill must be removed first to get at the light assembly. I would prefer just replacing the lens, but that doesn't appear to be an option. Any suggestions?

I also just cracked my foglight lens on my m45 sport. I just wanted the lens replaced but they gave me the whole unit: (lens, casing, bulb, everything). To remove the unit is pretty easy. You need to pry away the rubber surrounding which is held in place by just push in hooks. Then use either a regular or hex wrench to unsrew the unit. The unit cost me $240 and I replaced it myself.

Two things to check on are 1) can you just replace the lens, if so, can you get it somewhere other than the dealer. 2) looking into a clear bra protection film for the headlamps and foglights.

Hope that helps.

Welcome to the world of glass foglight lenses. I'm on my 3rd set in my 2k2 Maxima. Cracks and breaks can happen via rocks OR if they are hot and get wet.

Fun, fun...

I'll be looking for a clear bra cover for the fogs, but to me, coming from MB and Lexus, this is just another example of Infiniti's incredibly poor aproach to customer service and customer retention. With other luxury brands, it'd be replaced immediately at no cost with no questions asked, especially in first year (with Lexus probably forever). With Infiniti everything's the owner's fault and this attitude is one that will never get them into the league they want.

I dont know of any car company that will replace a fog light because it is cracked. Outside influence is not Infiniti's fault its yours for not paying attention to your surroundings, get over it.

Maybe, maybe not. I know with the Maxima, the foglights can get pretty hot. I have seen numerous reports of cracking simply by them getting hot (on for a while), then having cold water splashed on them. If this is the case, it is a flaw with the glass lenses that has gone uncorrected since they started using them again in '02. Regardless, the "single unit" design of the lights themselves does not allow for a simple lense replacement. Instead of spending $50 or less for a lense (or pair of them), you have to buy the whole unit which is costly.

http://www.stongard.com uses the 80 mil armoring for lights on the headlights. Everyone else that I have seen uses 40 mil.

If no chips yet, get the clear bra. Don't expect to be able to put it on yourself unless you are skilled and trained.
