I have an issue with my car and I am not really sure how to diagnose it.

1.) I've had an SEL on for the past 1.5 months due to a bank 2 catalytic converter code. I am not sure if I need to replace the cat or the O2 sensor.

2.) When I attempt to start the car, it turns on for a brief second, then the circuit completely cuts off and the car becomes dead. After waiting for about 15 to 20 seconds, I repeatedly press lock/unlock on my key fob and eventually the circuit comes back and the car turns over

3.) I replaced my battery about 3 months ago so it should not be that

I am not sure what the problem is. Has anyone else exhibited this issue? Anyone have any clue what it may be?

What are the codes you pulled? I too have the cat below efficiency code P0430. It's the cat not the o2 sensor.

Even though you just bought the battery, I'd make sure it's got good voltage under load--might have been a bad one, before looking for other gremlins in the electrical systems.

I don't know dude. He is able to start the car. Perhaps the alternator is bad? Do you still have belts driving your accessories? I know that sounds funny but I've witnessed this before.

I haven't checked the belts. How can I diagnose the alternator? Do you think it has anything to do with potentially a bad O2 sensor and the fact that the ECU is getting signal to shut the car off because of it?

Nope. I have had that code for over a year now. It doesn't do anything to my car that is noticeable. I was thinking if your car shuts off after starting perhaps it's the alternator but then again you would see a battery light on your dash. And it would likely not start again. Start by clearing your codes and see if the car runs properly after. I doubt that code has anything to do with the car shutting down.
