Text From Site: Dear FutureCars,
I am an automotive journalist with some information that will most definitely be of use to you, but I must remain anonymous. The following information I overheard while attending the Detriot Auto show.
Infiniti is planning on replacing the G20 sedan with something of similar size. The car will compete strictly against the new Audi A3 and the upcoming 1 series from BMW. The car will utilize Nissan's new Small Car chassis for the upcoming Sentra and several home market compacts.
This platform is of course co developed with parent Renault. The G20 replacement will come standard with a 155hp 4 cylinder engine, a 215hp 4 cylinder will also be offered, and a 6 cylinder is in the works as well. The 6 cylinder will come standard with all the goodies and optional AWD. A performance version like the M series is also planned but not signed off. Infiniti is aiming directly at BMW with this car and has many new ideas up their sleeve. An example is a simpler version of the new Active steering offered on the new 5 series. The system is said to work on the same principles as the BMW's, but won't be as good as the 5 series'.
The only main problem Infiniti now has is whether to offer the car in only hatch form or include a small sedan in the offering. Whether the rumors of BMW only bringing in the 1 series as a sedan are true, Infiniti is taking no chances and therefore developing both versions. Infiniti designers are currently finalizing the design so engineers can begin testing the car. But the overall shape is said to be muscular yet elegant. A concept was planned for Geneva, but is being pulled because BMW will not be showing the 1 Series at Geneva. Either at New York or 2005 Detriot is when the concept might be shown.
Exterior is said to be a mix of G35 and the SUV vehicle in America the FX35/45. I have seen sketches of the concept and it was . . . Click here to read the rest:
