Recently I changed the left tail on a friends 2006 G35 sedan, the lens was broken and she couldn't get it inspected. After I installed the tail light she hopped in the car to test out the new tail light which worked fine but I then noticed the third brake light acting up and then completely fails. I don't know for sure before I changed the tail light if it was working or beginning to fail. I'm concerned by somehow me changing the left tail light could possibly affect the third brake light, like if it's wired through the tail light and the plug needs to be reset, or something else.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

It was probably acting up before you did the fix as it's kind of a known issue. Does only 1/2 of it light? I replaced one on our '05 with an OEM part but you can also get aftermarket versions, like here:

(oops, that site seems to be down at the moment...)

Slightly awkward to replace. I think I came in from the back deck but some have been able to do it from the trunk...

Good luck.

I agree with ^^^ as it's doubtful replacing a tail light would necessarily cause a problem with the 3rd brake light.
