Since following this forum for almost the past 18 months since purchasing my new G35, there have been many posts on this topic. I have been monitoring my oil and gas consumption very closely. So with over 27.5k miles now on my 2006 G35 6 sp manual here are my latest results.Although my new G35 was using 1qt of oil per 1000 miles, when I reached 21k miles it began consuming 1qt per 2000 miles. From 25k miles to 27k miles it only used 1/2 qt oil. As many of you know, the L mark on the G35 flimsly oil dip stick is 2qts low. I've never let it get two qts low!I am using Penzoil 5w-30 and change oil & (Infiniti) filter myself every 3k miles. While it was consuming 1 qt/1000 miles I was using 10w-30 oil.

As for gas consumption, that has improved also from the 21 to 23 MPG when new to 24.04, 24.95 & 24.81 MPG on the last three fillups on about 1000 miles.I use regular unleaded 87 octane. I know many on this forum will disagree on using regular gas and oil but I just wanted to let everyone know my results for what its worth. When in high school I wanted a 32 Ford Roadster with a Chevy V8, three carburetors & a 4sp stick. That was a long time ago!I never obtained one but my G35 is my 32 FordI'm a happy camper and love my G!

did we ever figure out if its the manual Gs that have a tendency to use more oil or not? i have an '06 automatic with nearly 11k miles and it hasn't used any oil yet...

I think so. The manual G owners and 2006 and older (nothing with the new engine) had problem with oil consumption.

Telcoman that is a useful info you have here. With all the details. Good stuff.

I assume you are using conventional motor oil, not semi-synthetic or synthetic. I wonder what your oil consumption would be with another brand. Historically, Pennzoil has always had a higher consumption rate than competitors. (I stopped using Pennzoil many years ago for this very reason.)

I have always used conventional motor oil because I've always changed oil every three to four thousand miles myself. I'm probably the oldest on this site driving the hot rod that I was never able to afford or obtain when I was younger. I don't feel the added expense for synthetic is worth it?Although I am using Penzoil now, I've had other brands as my G35 was breaking in. Whatever was in it when I took delivery, the engine initally used a qt per 1k miles. I usually buy whatever is on sale at Pep Boys. As long as the API standards meet manufacture specs it is okay with me. By changing oil every 3k miles I've obtained 246k miles out of a single vehicle and a fair number of vehicles well over 160k miles. Changing oil and filter is cheap as is the air filter. What I find hard to understand by reading the many posts on this site is why so many of the younger members are spending so much money on modifications?Take the money & put it into an IRA or 401k. When you get to my age you'll be thanking me!You are going to want the latest & greatest in a year or two anyway so why waste the money? If you have the misfortune of an accident you've just pissed a fortune in mods away! Is it really that important to beat someone else at a traffic light? If your girlfriends like you, you'll still get laid even if the other vehicle gets ahead of you. Just my 2 cents!
