Hi guys,I live in CA where we don't get much rain, but when it does rain, the trunk in my G fills up with water. I've noticed this since pretty much the day I drove it off the lot (it was raining that day).

The water collects on the driver side of my trunk and I cannot find the source, the farthest I was able to trace it to the (follow me here) inside of the beam going L-R under the rear window. The beam has access holes to get at the the rear deck; when I stick my hand in the access hole, I can feel water.

I've now taken it in 3 times for repair, each time I was given the run-around.-1st time, Riverside Infiniti, chalked it up to my mistake.-2nd time, Riverside Infiniti, said they fixed it and I didn't check before leaving-3rd time, Tustin Infiniti, the tech and I stood over the trunk with a garden hose. Not only could we not find the leak, but no water was going into the trunk. He said it was probably the seal, but he wouldn't order one until they could be certain.

At this point, I'm getting pretty pissed off - I've worked on Nissans for years , but I don't want to do big repairs anymore - I expect the dealership to fix problems I can't fix and they haven't; every time it rains, I have to check all the stuff in my trunk to make sure its not ruined, and I'm supposed to go to the dealership the next time it rains to have it looked at.

Anyone have any ideas? Googling was not my friend, but if I can find someone who had a similar problem, maybe I can get them to replace the seal.

Thanks.

Welcome to NICO

You didn't mention the dates of the three visits and I assume you paid by credit card and have receipts.

If I were you I would return to Riverside where you've already had two visits and meet with the service manager. Be pleasant calm and nice and expalin the problem. Enjoy the loaner & have them call you when they have found the leak.

Getting pissed off at those that are trying to help you is not going to accomplish anything. If you have to return a few more times until they find the leak so be it.

Good luck

I had a used 2006 Sentra SE-R Spec V for a year and after a few tries with my dealer, it was determined that seal between the fender well and the trunk was defective. It apparently was a common problem on those cars and was finally fixed. Never heard of this same problem on any Infinitis but I suppose it is possible. I should add that it was way worse after I drove it as a opposed to it just sitting in the rain. That made it harder for the dealer to figure it out since water would fling up from the road while driving and literally flood the trunk.

Hm Riverside Infiniti usually good with costumers.

These are hard to find and dealers are well mostly not up to the task" to waste" their time. Anyways I would try to locate it first. Get a friend with you and open the pass thru look thru with a flash light as your friend using the hose to water the area.

See if you can find it. If you find the leak go to your dealer and tell them.

I had a whistling noise at higher speed on my 07. When I took it in they could hear it but could not locate the source. Went home and started to tape the car step by step till I found the place where it was comming from. I took it back and told them what I did to find it. They were able to fix the problem.

Back in the seventies we had a 74 Mazda RX4 Rotory engine wagen. It would die out on the road and eventually start up again. After two trips to two different Mazda dealers I traded my VW with the wife and began driving the Mazda every day carriying tools and a voltmeter. The problem turned out to be an intermittant electric fuel pump that would either quit or restart after hitting a bump or tapping it with a screw driver handle.I replaced the fuel pump, got splashed with gas while doing it. end of problem.

sorry about your troubles. at the very least, the trunk weatherstrip should have been replaced. Do a little investigation. After rain, take note of exactly where the wet areas are. A leak could also come in from the rear windshield, or even taillights. But I will admit, its rare. I don't hear much about leaks, and Infiniti has not done any updates or redesigns with the sealing parts for the trunk, so everything seems to be fine.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'll do some crawling in the trunk and try to find it again. At least it seems to be a one-off problem not indicative of an overall design problem. I can't find the quote button in this new layout so...

telcoman - I bought the car in Riverside too so I figure they're the ones I'm going to have to deal with. 60 miles away though. :( I read The Consumerist daily - they have great advice on how to escalate these types of customer service issues, my hope is that I can resolve this problem without resorting to escalation tactics.

zozoka1212 - I'm not so much complaining about Riverside Inf, I've never been treated badly there just that they haven't fixed what I've asked for several times.
