im about to hit 50k on my 2005 g35x... i had the first major service at 30k and my next major service will be at 60k then 90k miles. So far it has all just been fluid/filter changes. only "problem" i ever had was a warranty fix on my fuel dampers... it was just making a sound when fuel was being pumped into the engine. also had the original factory battery finally crap out (4 year old battery). So far the only maintience that costed any real money were the brakes and rotors at 30k miles.

also you can get you car fixed at a nissian dealership and they are much less than the infiniti dealer. So far my 2005 G35x has been virtually problem free. I fully expect my car to be running past 100k miles.

at 96k though i would get every fluid changed and new spark plugs... there are people on this forum with 100k+ miles on their G35 hopefully they can chime in and give you their experiences after 70k (when the powertrain warranty is up).

The car has been owned by a an elderly CEO and been used for commuting clients (almost all freeway miles). The car is in EXCELLENT condition, just had the huge service done at Infinti dealership (timing belt, transmission flush, etc). It looks like it has been babied and has all service records all done at the dealership.
Was this a rubber timing belt or a metal timing belt?

Except for the high mileage, everything you have said about the car is positive. As long as it is properly maintained and not abused, it should be good for at least another 150k miles without needing a new engine or transmission.

Elderly CEO types aren't likely to abuse a car, especially when they are hauling clients around.

You know how the car has been maintained because you have the service records. (Since the car has timing chains instead of a timing belt, I don't understand your reference to changing the belt.)

Infiniti is just high end Nissan which means that it is at least as reliable as Nissan and probably better.

Because it's an Infiniti rather than a Nissan, parts and labor will be more expensive. You can save some by using a Nissan dealer for service rather than an Infiniti dealer. An independent shop with Nissan experience should be even cheaper.

If the asking price takes into account the high mileage, I'd say go for it.

Probably they replaced the serpentine belt which drives all the accessories.

Please understand that although it's a relatively new car, at 96K miles, the Basic, Emission and Powertrain warranties are gone. The only remaining warranties are for corrosion and seat belts. You can try getting an extended warranty for peace of mind.

The timing chain usually lasts for the lifetime of the car. It's not a scheduled maintenance item and replaced only AS FAILED. The drive (serpentine) belts are inspected at 60K and then inspected every 15K and replaced as required per Schedule 1. Since he's a CEO, then I assume they did Premium Service which entails drive belt replacement at 90K.

Just make sure that the transmission service was really a flush (>11 quarts)and not drain and refill (4 quarts). Ifi it was a flush, the ATF should still be pinkish red. If it is brownish/dark color, then have them flush the transmission.

Once you have the car, a can of BG44K or Red Line SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner every six months will prolong the life span of the fuel injectors and combustion chamber components.
