Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I have never used a forum before.

I have a 06 G35 6MT Sedan 130,000 miles...The engine started ticking so checked oil and it was low. Now every 2000 miles after oil change the ticking starts again and the engine is burning oil, as in, almost dry. Now there is a slight tick even when oil is full/fresh. Dealer says it will prob. get louder and should think about selling if I want any money for it...$5500-7000. Does it just need new top end? If so any recommendations. Price? all in...The car has had Zero mechanical problems since I bought it new. Love the car and would like to keep it but if it needs to go I would like to salvage any monetary value for a down payment on a newer vehicle. Thanks

What kind of oil have you run/do you run and what viscosity?

I wonder if it could just be the timing chain tensioners not getting enough oil pressure or something. Have you noticed any loss of power?

You could try playing with oil viscosities and see if it makes a difference. If it's just the tensioners, that's a big job, but not a reason to sell the car. If changing oil viscosities doesn't help, chances are the low oil has damaged a main/rod bearing. If that's the case, you're on borrowed time. As long as you keep it full, it won't get worse, but it's still probably damaged and the engine would have to be rebuilt/replaced.

500 (not synthetic) The power is strong...just a loud ticking when low on oil and now it's a very faint but constant tick.

I went down to 0w20 from 10w30 in my Miata and that got rid of lifter/HLA tick

Thanks for the feedback...So the short of it is...I need to try keeping the oil topped at a lower viscosity (20 weight) to see if it helps with the noise/ticking. If that doesn't solve the problem I'm probably in need of a rebuild (shot bearing). Thanks again...I'll try the oil swap and see.

If it's better warm, that's probably not a bearing clearance issue. That sounds more like a lifter/tensioner issue. Try going down to 0w20 and see what happens.
