Personally, I think it's a little marketing gimmick. My pathfinder has a 4 speed auto with overdrive.....
So we can say both my pathfinder and the G has a:
5 sp Auto or a 4 sp with overdrive....
Which one you think sounds better for marketing?
I was hoping that the 2004 G would have a 5 spd with od gear i.e. 6 total gears but of course you have to get the 7 spd auto whenever yr that is. Was really surprised that at 70mph cruising, the rpm was about 2400-2500. Definitely if we have another gear at the top to lower the rpm, to around 2200 rpm or less at 70 mph cruising, would definitely see considerably better highway fuel econ. I think the engine definitely has enough power to take a higher top gear ratio for cruising. What that mean though is that the G may not actually reach top speed not in top gear... sorta like the corvette with its tall od top gear... It's the way for manufacturers to "cheat" and get better fuel eco so we don't end up paying gas guz tax....Tben again the G has a spd limiter so you dont even reach redline in 5th gear right now anyway in auto....
Can anyone with 7 sp auto tell me whats the rpm for their cruising spd at say around 70-80 mph?
