Hey guys,

New to this forum, first post. Frequent poster over at e90post.com as I'm currently an owner of a 2006 BMW 330i. Considering getting rid of that in exchange for a G35 Sport 6MT. I've read all the reviews and what not, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with both vehicles? Anyone who moved from the 330i to the G35?

I'd ask everyone's opinion, but I'm guessing everyone here would say go with the G, while everyone back on e90post would tell me to keep the 330i.

Thanks all,Paul

Hi Paul:

Thought I would refer you to my review at:

zerothread?id=261013

This is not for the 6MT G35s, I switched from the 6 speed 330i to the G35x (auto), but you'll see some of the pros and cons regardless.

Regards,Tamir

Wow, Tamir...great review and so very helpful! A few comments...

I have iDrive in my 330i and I actually find it quite easy to use. I was nervous given all the media flack about the system, but I really don't see what they're complaining about. I've been quite happy with the system. Like anything, there's a learning curve, and maybe media test drivers / reviewers don't have it long enough to travel that full curve.

You mention the stick in the 330i and I couldn't agree more. I had only had acura sticks before, but the 330i stick is perfect. I'm a little nervous about the G35 6MT in that I've read the clutch, specfically the release point, is crap and makes smooth start offs nearly impossible. Maybe that's just the driver.

The reviews I've read are consistent with your assessment of steering and handling, giving the slight edge to the 330i. However, the G isn't exactly a mini-van in that department, which is why I used the term "slight" from the reviews I've read. Power is obviously in favour of the G.

At the end of the day, the 330i may be a marginally better vehicle (depending on who you ask), but I doubt anyone would say that it's $10K better, which is essentially the price diff between similarly equipped vehicles.

Paul,

Welcome to nico. I can't say I have experience of both. I used to own a BMW back 12 years ago. However I loved that car. As you highlited yourself also why would you pay $10k more for pretty much the same thing. Also as I see the Infiniti(Nissan)is getting all new product for sale. I know the Bimmer guys say after all it is just a Nissan. I can't see the problem with that. Nissan came out with vehicles lately we all can be proud. They all on the top or close to the top putting other auto makers on the edge. Like most powerfulll V8 in the SUV category or I just seen a new Altima coupe with 270 hp. The new Infiniti coupe comming out soon too than more and more to go. I never regret my choice to have a 07 G35x. I love the car I love the look and the performance is outstanding.

I hope to see you here soon as a proud G owner.

i've driven my neighbor's 330i and he's driven my g35s. the bimmer definitely had more feel to it, but i've gotten used to my car since i've driven his so i think it wouldn't matter. the seats are more comfy in the bimmer, but i LOVE power. and the 330i just didn't do it for me.

i definitely love the power from the G35S, and LSD is always a big plus. The 335i's don't even have it. I'm a big BMW guy, used to own a e36 m3. if you ask me, the g35s is a great car, you'll love it. I mean people say handling is better in bimmers but how often are you pulling full lateral G's? Most people need linear power to get on to on-ramps and stuff like that. If you live in the mountains with a bunch of twisties, then that's a different story and even then there are cars that can easily outperform a bimmer. i'd say either go with a e46 m3 and if that doesn't work out, get the G35S. That's what I did :-D. To be honest with you, I'm very happy I went with the G.

like zozoka said if u test drive the two cars the only thing that really stands out is your paying 10k more for a car thats a couple of 10ths faster(maybe) and may corner a little better and unless your racing it do u need it for 10k more
