Just returned from the dealership where I was told they found gritty debris in the intake timing solenoid valve screens. Advised me to replace both solenoids and get an engine flush. The car only has 31K miles and has been maintained pretty well. (I'm 2k miles over due for my oil change).

Anyone have any idea what the gritty debris could be and if this sounds like a legitimate issue.Unless I can provide the oil change records they wont cover under warranty.

Any feedback appreciated.

thanks for the info. However, I've been pretty diligent about changing the oil. Can't comment on the quality from the oil change shops though. Can these screens be cleaned? Will a detergent additive to the oil solve the problem or do they need to be totally replaced?

why did you take the car in in the first place? was the check engine light on and if so waht codes? with the low mileage you have it sounds kinda fishy. the screens can be replaced with out the valves assms. you could probably clean them. even so the work should be covered by nissan powertrain warranty.
