I am in the market for a new transmission for my 06 M35 with 180k miles, I found a shop in Atlanta with a 2006 350Z automatic transmission for sale with 54k miles. I know the engines are the same in both cars and the transmissions are the same also, my question is after the swap the transmission, will the car need to be programmed by the dealership? For the price they are offering 450 and I can pick it up locally, I am almost willing to take the chance. Any help would be appreciated.

Chances are it won't have the right program, but the TCM's on Nissan's axial transmissions are all attached to the Valve Body and can be swapped without much effort. Assuming there's nothing electrically wrong with your old one, just change it over to the VB on the new one.

update: I ordered a transmission from a 2006 M 35 from JDM NY, hopefully my car will be back on the road by the end of next month.

Transmission swaps shouldn't take long. You may get away without reprogramming. Had to do Valve body on a 2015 QX80 and other than swapping the part, all went well without computers getting involved.

I still haven't done the swap, still getting parts for other maintenance to do at the same time. trying to get it done by the end of March hopefully.
