Post

I'm new to this forum and looking for some information. My wife and I have owned a 2006 350-Z Convertable since new. Recently we have had trouble with the top going down completely so she went by the dealer to have it looked at. The service manager told her this has been a problen on all convertable 350's, and even showed her the Technical Bulleton. Even though it has been an on going problem with their cars they won't fix it under warranty. Anyone have any information on similar problems or suggestions. thanks

If the dealership says they know what the problem is, more than likely they are right.

As for technical bulletins I hate them. I had some bolts in my rear axle shafts fail. And even though I was still under drivetrain warranty because there was a bulletin they would not cover it. I even called the Nissan HQ about it and they wouldn't place the repair under warranty.

I think what is frustrating is Nissan has had this problem with the convertable tops since 2004 and they haven't fixed the problem.

According to them it amounts to replaceing two elastic straps in the top assembly that aren't strong enough to do the job, $35.00 in parts and nearly $300.00 in labor.

I guess I had hoped someone might have had the same problem and was able to get Nissan to fix it.

I'm confused, why would Nissan KNOW about the problem but not offer to fix it under warranty?I'm not an expert under warranty terms, but I know most wear parts are not covered under warranty (brakes, brake rotors, unless utterfailure). But for your convertible top not properly working, why is that not a recall or warranty item?

That's my question as well, to which we really didn't get an answer. These straps apparently aren't strong enough to pull the top down after a period of time. According to the service manager at our dealership this has been an on going problem but Nissan considers it a wear & tear item. To me it sounds like poor quality parts that don't hold up. Since it is not a direct safety issue no one has called their hand on it.

I can see how they would call it a wear and tear item, but still....maybe 3yrs and it doesnt' properly work????Have you tried another dealership? If not, maybe going to another dealership 'blind' might help.
