I found a shot of what could be the next gen. Celica.....

I actually think It looks better than the current gen, and the world could always use another 2.0 liter AWD turbo car.

Ah, if it's like usual then Japan and maybe Europe and Aus. will get the turbo, and the U.S. will get a watered-down version.

I always thought of the current gen Celicas as a girls car. The older Celicas were definately more performance intended, and with this next gen, I think it might just recapture that spirit. Way to go Toyota. Bring back the Supra to the states and we might just forgive you for your high-gas mileage only era as of late...

Last few Celica gens have been...somewhat lacking in the testosterone department definitely.

Not bad. They need to have a rwd contender. This is just teaser crap. Toyota used to be my favorite manufacturer, until they got all sissified as of lately.

I doubt thats it. Its going to be a Scion, so that Toyota symbol shows its a mock up or old concept.

I love that concept. I agree with the girly remarks about the recent toyota's, especially celica's. About 70+% of the celica's I see around here (newer ones more than older) I see girls driving them. Those, eclipses (all years) and mustang convertibles. Whats so 'cute' about these cars?

I think atleast the first gen DSMs don't look girly. If I had a ton of money to pay for all the maintenace for a Sh1tsubishi, I might want an old TSi/GSX...

i like the ones that were discontinued in 98...but only cuz the turbo/awd models were really fast for cheap

and that new celica looks sweet if u ask me, but i'd still buy an evo 8, it's my fav car that's out for under 32K right now...if i had the extra bucks i'd get a white on black G35, put the brm exhaust system and jackson racing supercharger, some 10" wide volks out back/9" wide volks up front (black TE37 naturally) and be done w/ it

the 5th gens were either FWD or AWD witht he GT4. the older older celicas were RWD, back in the early 80s.

They switched from RWD to FWD in 1986, the 4th gen. Celica was the first FWD.

I repeat. That is NOT going to be the celica and they will most likely not make a AWD turbo version. It will have a Camry four banger tuned by TRD.

The only AWD (possibly turbo, once again doubt it) sporty car that Toyota might and is considering making is the Matrix Rally. IMHO the Matrix is a waste of time.

ok, let's make sense of this. Why would Toyota release their economy sports coupe to compete with the flagship sports cars of other companies? If they make a turbo AWD Celica, I doubt it would have more than 220 hp. Think about it, any more and they'd be in the $30000 range instead of the low 20s the top of the line Celica goes for. I have a feeling this is about as real as that "S16" picture we've been seeing posted billions of times.

why would mitsubishi make a AWD turbo version of arguably the cheapest and lamest economy car on the planet and sell it for $30,000? :D

Toyota/scion needs a performance car. Forshizle.

I talked to a guy I know, and he said Toyota might drop the Celica and replace It with this: A Toyota Caldina

I don't know why they would since the current gen. Celica's having been selling like crazy. I guess we won't know till late 04.

Why change the formula when it works. Toyota has been selling purely FWD (something like 95% of sales) Celica's for almost two decades. Why change. If Toyota does anything it'll come out with something to compete with the 350Z, N/A and around the 30K price range. We all know that corporately these 30-40K turbo supercars really don't sell enough to mass produce, or at least they didn't. Maybe they will now, but it seems Nissan hit the nail on the head with the 350Z, Mazda will sell the RX8 reasonably well, I expect Toyota to do about the same.
