Just had this replaced on my used Altima (purchased as Certified Used Car in June 2008 w/26K miles on it. Learned a friend of my mother's had 'right front wheel fall off' in a parking lot. Mine was at my neighbor's auto repair shop ... checking to see if I needed brakes. My wheel was literally about to fall off. Had to be towed to dealer (under ext. warranty) for repair.

Curious about this issue with Altimas. Also just had trans replaced at 30K.

vbartt, you may want to move this to the 3rd Generation threads - you're more likely to find a solution there.

Also, I bought my 05 with 18k miles on it. When I hit 20k, I also had to have the transmission replaced. Nissan told me that the trans was outputting higher power levels than what it is suppose to, so my car was banging hard everytime I got off a highway - ie. dropping from 90mph to 45mph. Just be sure to continue to let them service/swap it every chance you get while it is still under warranty. I had mine replaced twice, and now have 122k miles and the car runs like new still.

As for the rim, that's sort of an oddity. I've never come across that issue, but like I said, search the threads in the 3rd Generation forums where you are more likely to come across an owner with the same issue, and to narrow your search of SE-R owners. Perhaps both your SE-R and your friend's mother's SE-R came from the same location - I'd analyze the VIN and check for a match on the place of origin. My father had a 2001 Altima GXE that came from Arizona. Apparently many 2001 Altimas coming from Arizona had the same issue of a failing driver side window engine because of the high temperatures there. . . . . at least that's what they told us.
