My transmission would not move in reverse or drive. Transmission pan leak (very rusty). I swapped the pan, and with all the clutch solenoid codes, I swapped the valve body + tcm from a frontier pickup in the junkyard to my transmission. Filled up fluid but now it won't go backwards but does go forward. I'm 90% sure I can feel it shift, just no movement. What's worse is that it once moved forward when I put it in reverse.

Do these need to be reprogrammed? I still have the old valve body. Would swapping all of the solenoids from one to the other fix it? Thinking of taking a transmission off a 4x4 pathfinder that isn't an se off road from the junkyard and putting it on my car.

The TCM's on those trannies are a nuts-and-bolts swap for the most part. If there wasn't anything electrically wrong with your old one then I'd try swapping that into the the new Valve Body, so at least you'll know you have the right firmware.

That said, when a transmission won't move at all it isn't usually the VB causing the issue. Typically it means a bad pump, leaky pressure seal, electrical power failure, or some other global issue. So I wouldn't get your hopes up about any VB fixing it.

It moves in drive now and I had codes for every solenoid. The codes are gone now but I only drove it about 200 feet in drive. Won't move in reverse, but the codes for reverse solenoids are now gone. Might need to be a tcm swap but I was concerned. It could also be that the frontier was column shifter? I'm not sure I didn't check that part but I feel like if it was it wouldn't work at all.

To my knowledge there's no difference in the lower linkage attachment for column or console, the differences are all at the top. So the TCM shouldn't know the difference. Since the new VB now has the same issue as the original (no reverse), you probably have a bad Reverse Brake clutch pack.
