I have a 2005 QX56 with display problems. If I disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes hop in and start the vehicle my display works fine. Display unit is lit, radio works. GPS doesn't seem to update my location but does display. After 30 seconds of the vehicle running the radio stops working and nothing is displayed on the display unit however the display is still back lit. I have no codes presently. I have cleaned the battery terminals, checked fuses, and checked the grounds. I have replaced the display, and the radio/cd changer and continue to have the same problems. I have factory components with no after market accessories. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

BCM and/or instrument cluster are faulty.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure about the BCM but the instrument cluster was faulty. The tach and speedo were not working. I sent the unit in to be repaired. They were able to repair the tach and speedo but I lost some other functions such as fuel gauge and illumination when the headlights are on. I will order a new cluster and see if that does the trick. Thanks for your input.

the instrument cluster is a major part of the entire CAN bus system. the CAN bus system is serial in nature so all commands flow through the system listening to specific sensors, etc. if the instrument cluster is faulty, some of those signals can get lost and issues issues downstream.

I sent my cluster to Module Master in Moscow Idaho. They normally can fix just about any cluster. I found them on ebay. They could not fix mine as the wires were broken to close to the chip to repair. They sent it back free of charge. I then went to the dealership and paid $534.99 for a new cluster. That included the programming. I ended up finding the problem. It was the audio/visual/navigation controller part # 28330-ZC00A. I found one from a local junk yard for $225. Took 20 minutes to install. Dealership wanted $800. Everything is back to normally.
