Nissan Part Number: 15208-9E000 Weight: 182 grams

Bosch D3323 DistancePlus: Weight: 258 grams

I was shocked by the tiny size of the Nissan filter for Q45 V8 engine. The Bosch is only slightly longer 3 9/16" vs 3 5/16" for the Nissan.

But the difference in weight is quite substantial at 30% heavier for the Bosch. I know when I first bought the car, and changed the oil, that the filter body twisted on the Nissan filter from being over torqued.

Any opinions on the "guts" of these two filters. The Bosch run about $11.50 at Walmart.

The bosch distance PLUS is a very good filter,a virtual clone to the Pure One filter with more holding capacity. That, and the Mobil 1 filter would be an upgrade to the factory part.

I'm pretty much sold on the PureOne filters... I've been a "factory filter guy" in the past, but since Nissan superceded the 60U00 filter on the Q with the lesser 55YOO that they previously said wasn't good enough for our engine tolerances, and then changed all of their filters to made in China stuff a couple of years later, I've been looking for alternatives.

It's considered bad forum etiquette to refer people to other forums - but there's not a ton of overlap on this subject within NICO - so I'll go ahead and tell you this:

Run a google search for the words "Bob Oil Guy" and you'll find a forum that will tell you everything you wanted to know about oil and oil filters - and probably about 200TB of information beyond that. The "Motor Oil 101" article is one of the best reads on an automotive topic I've seen. I also find that they do a great job of finding good deals on filters and oil rebates... I've gotten a nice stash of PureOne's for the G and Frontier in my garage that cost at the most $3 each when Advance Auto had discount codes, a sale, and a manufacturer rebate all lined up at the same time.

Okay, thanks guys.

I guess OEM isn't always the way to go.

I'll check out the Purlolator and Mobil 1 filters for sales, codes, discounts.
