Possible fouling maybe. I havn't seen the car yet (been walking my brother through the troubleshooting) so i'll see soon if there are codes to read off.The car cranks up healthy but when it seems to have started it dies right away. Any ideas on troubleshooting or possible causes ?

Can someone tell me where the fuel pump relay is ? I was able to locate the fuse only but not pump relay , also are we able to hear the pump when the ignition turned on ? i'd like to feel the fuel feed line inside the engine bay and see if there's a pulse.

any ideas are appreciated as the car is in Dubai and the mechanics here suck.

Update:

Appreciate all the help , the car is still not starting so maybe you can read on and give more opinions . Here's what I've done so far.

-The security light does go away hence the key is fine.

-The fuel pump sounds healthy and loud , with strong pulse on the fuel feed line going to the engine , fuel pump fuse checks out but i still havn't found the relay , however i'm thinking its not a fuel issue .

-I havn't checked for spark , but any ignition related fuses have checked out as well , but i'm really not positive there's spark.

-Last but not least I get a code 1122 which is electronic throttle control function/circuit. Fuse checks out fine. Does that cause the car not to start? In the manual it says this MIL will cause the fail-safe mode of throttle valve fixed at 5 degrees . When i turn the ignition on i do hear and feel the valve moving but dont know if its normal operation.

I will erase the code and see if it comes back when i try n crank it again.

Also I'll tell you the events leading up to this problem. The car was driven in for oil change. Once that was done it started up fine , drove around the block but came back to have them top off the windshield wiper fluid , killed the engine and he topped it off but spilled some fluid on the ECU area and surrounding wires bundles but not a really large amount. The car never started after that. I can't imagine the little fluid can go through one of the ECU harnesses inside the ECU or the surrounding wires.

Sorry for the long read.

first try an ecu reflash and c if that helps, if not try to borrow an ecu, check wires for shortage, burn marks or ne thing, inspect ecu carefully to look for n e signs of damage, i don't see how water or liquid would get in there unless it was not sealed properly at first

ECU reflash ? is that same as reseting the fault codes or disconnecting the battery for an extended time ?

take it to the dealer and they reprogram it i am not sure if its the whole ecu, or some parts not sure how it work but i had a prob recently where i cleaned the throttle body and it give me a p0507 code idling too high, try doin the manual reset, disconnect battery, still idled too high, took it to the dealer to do idle relearn and its been ok so far

the dealer has a consult 2 scanner, might be differnt for ur truck, but yeah, there r updates available every once in a while i guess

maybe try coating connections with dieletric grease or better yet the spray, i believe its silicone spray not sure, but its supposed to help repell moisure

Oh brother i could've given you the instructions out of the service manual on how to do idle relearn yourself without consult II

Hmm this is where it gets complicated cus the ECU for the pathfinders sold here are different from the US models , im in the persian gulf , i brought the pathfinder from the US with me. So the dealer here won't be too cooperative but i might have to give it a try if all my troubleshooting hits a dead end.

i tried three different manual reset, it didn't take for some reason, i have the Haynes, 2001.5 qx4, 2002 pathfinder factory manual, and other related websites, i failed all with all my attempts to reset it manually, but what way do u have just for curiosity?

For the 2002 go here

http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums...id=71

The "idle air volume learning" section is inside the Engine Control PDF which is third one down , on page 71 you'll find the manual non consult II procedure. But this is probably same service manual you have.
