2005 Nissan Murano Shift cover

Please please help! My AWD button popped under the console in my Murano, so I decided to take the middle console piece out and put it back in place. In doing so, I had to take the cover off the shifter area and now the cover for the shifter area won't go back in place. I'm sorry I don't know the technical terms for these parts. How do I get the shifter cover to go back into place? Pounding it with my fist did not work
