OKI have a 2005 Nissan Altima with the QR25DE 2.5L engine.A few months ago when I was driving down the road it started to lose power within less than a 1/4 mile it developed a very loud knock (seems to be from the "lower end"??)
Knock is not loudly pronounced at idle however it is present. When throttle is applied the knock is very loud, and car produces very little power. I sent it to my mechanic and he claimed it is flat out dead!! Needs a new engine and nothing can be done. Can any of you think of what may be causing this knock? And is there a way to fix it without a new engine. I have the car parked and still owe 10K on the loan. and like an idiot I opted out of the GAP insurance. My wife hit a mail box shortly before this happened and I have not filed with my insurance company but I doubt it would be enough damage to total it, and probably would not cover the 10K I owe anyways. She crunched the left fender, headlight assembly, bumper cover, and corner of the hood.
I have never had an engine fail on me like this it only has 140K on it.All fluid levels were normal.fresh oil change, transmission flush and tune-up. It was exhbiting a "ticking" sound but I was told by my mechanic it was nothing to worry about 3 months prior to this current issue occuring.
At this point I would just like to get it back on the road for as little as possible rather than to keep paying the loan/insurance on a car I can't use.
Thanks,Andrew R. Powers
