2005 nissan altima 3.5se cv axle

I have a problem and cant seem to get it fixed. The axle nut keeps coming loose. It doesnt back all the way off but it loosens enough to cause it to pop and thump really bad all the way thru the floorpan. It has a carter pin in it but it does not hold the nut tight. All that is on this axle is nut and carter pin...just wondering if there is supposed to be an washer or something else that is supposed to help hold nut tight. i have used air tools and a 2ft breaker bar to tighten the nut and still comes loose after just a short ride or 2. any help would be appreciated

If it's coming loose it's likely that the cotter pin is not doing it's job and that the nut is not getting tightened enough. If it still comes loose after tightening it that much, the threads may be stripped. You may have to replace the whole thing. Take a look at the other side to compare.
