Hi All,
My brother got a 2005 maxima which he bought a week ago, he was driving it and it was fine, then while he was driving it, the car died on him and wouldn't start.
He noticed after it died, both radiator fans are on as soon as the ignition key is on.
I put my cheap obdii scanner on it but the scanner wouldn't communicate with the car. My friend has a fancier scanner (Launch x.431 if I remember), he said the car is showing code U1000 and he said i have to fix that in order to see if there any further error codes.
So I did some homework and found that Nissan has a bulletin in regards to u1000 which is caused by bad grounds however, this code won't cause the car to fail to start.
based on the bulletin, the grounds under the dash both on passenger side as well as the driver side need to be cleaned, I managed to find the grounds under the passenger side but the one on the driver side couldn't find it, looked every where for it but with no dam luck. I don't even think there is a ground on the driver side, I think Nissan is messing with my head.
Also, there is no spark to the engine. The security light is on when the key is not in the ignition and is flashing if I remember correctly when the ignition is on but I need to reconfirm that.
How is the the rad fans are related to the car dying, did something shorted out causing them to turn on when the ignition is on?
I check all the fuses and they are all good.
Any help is greatly appreciated, also if some one can post a picture for the ground the dash under the driver side that would be great, as the diagram that Nissan shows in the bulletin is a generic one that does not show Nissan ground location accurately.
Thank you for reading this and look forward for your input.
Cheers,
Rafi
