Hey there everyone!

My name is Charles and I just purchased a 2005 G35 Sedan RWD from carmax. I bought it with 51k miles and I am pleased with both the condition and the ride. Now I have a limited 38 month/38k mile warranty from either carmax or the local infinity dealership (for about 25 more dollars.)

Here is my issue: At 75mph-85mph (yes I have a heavy foot:p) The steering wheel starts vibrating. What is the problem? Im thinking alignment and/or suspension. Also there is a slight vibration with the brakes when coming from very high speeds. This cannot be normal considering the calibur of the vehicle.

Now, I also understand that I bought the car used so this might have been an issue with the previous owner that was never adressed appropiately. So now that I am a humble member of this board amongst giants of "infinite" knowledge regarding these vehicles, I call upon those that have come before me. What are your first impressions regarding this issue and what do you all reccomend?

Thank you.

From my excpierence with cars other than a G, when braking it's from warped rotors. From what I've heard G rotors are too thin to be resurfaced, but I am not certain of this.

Now without braking during high speeds I believe your tires may be out of balance slightly.

I agree about the tires out of balance...the car may have thrown a wheel weight recently. Any decent tire shop will balance all four tires for you for 30 or 40 bucks. As for your rotors, I am a firm believer of name brand parts...either factory or performance, however, I just purchased drilled and slotted rotors on ebay for my 2003 G sedan and they are great! Im sure they are a no name brand but I bought from the same guy about 3 years ago, or 50,000 miles ago, and had no issues, considering I drive my car very hard. If you are interested I can give you the ebay user I used for my purchase. I paid $200.00 shipped for all 4 rotors.

Okay great. I'll make sure to have the dealership balance the tires out and possibly replace the brakes. And thanks for that advice on purchasing the other type on eBay I might have to take you up on that offer. Now here's another question for all the infiniti erudites; after buying a used car ( this really is my first time )what would you have the dealership inspect or what do you think I should ask the dealer regarding the condition and preformance of the car? Keep in mind I just purchased it from carmax three days ago and it supposedly went through their 151 point inspection Or something like that. But I would assume that the makers of the cars know worlds more than carmax. What do you all suppose I ask the dealer? Thank you in advance

Vivek...?? wtf?? I thought you bought some rotors already?

Anyways, to the OP.

It sounds like you have a tire balancing issue( as stated above) and you also have warped rotors. I hated my OE rotors. I warped the first set on the in a year and I wasn't tracking the car. When I replaced my rotors they warped again.

I ended up buyinh some X drilled/Slotted rotors. Did a lot of research before I did so.

They use high quality material and the rotors have been great.

Ok, So what kinda of rotors did my car come with? And also if I take it back to dealership since I have a warranty with them, will they replace my rotors with X drilled/slotted rotors if I ask them to? So if these questions sound stupid please bear with me as I am a fledgling neophyte infiniti driver. Thus my membership on this awesome board!

I sent you an ebay user that looked decent. The guy I bought mine from does not have an application for the 2005. Look around a bit at this guy and others on ebay and see what you like. As long as the person has excellent feedback you will be fine. Once again...its not like me to put ebay parts on my G but I have had great luck with my rotors. I also use Hawk Ceramic pads though and I do like these as well. The pads I bought at Tirerack.com

I doubt they will replace your rotors. The rotors you have are most likely stock. I don't know the manufacturer. All I can tell you is I went through 2 sets before I was smart and bought aftermarket rotors.

http://www.ocautosports.com $200 shipped for all 4 corners. High quality materials. 1 year warranty. Great deal.

Your tires could be toed out a little too much. They should be in just a little bit. You can check yourself easily, or go with the alignment shop.
