2005 G35 with 266k Miles :-)

Yesterday my wife calls me as she is trying to leave her work with the statement "the car just doesn't respond to when I press the gas....I have a VDC OFF light and a SLIP light on"

Mind you the car got to work just fine.

I get there and indeed there is no throttle response and the car is idling at around 1500 rpms.
I ran my diagnostic tool on it and got the following codes
P2122 - App Sen1/circ (google - problem with the Accelerator Pedal Position sensor, which would trigger the Service Engine light (it did) and put it into limp mode)

P2127 - App Sen 2/circ (google - throttle/pedal position sensor E circuit low, which can put it into limp mode)

U1001 - CAN Comm circuit (google- a CAN buss error to the ECM)

C1131 - Engine Signal 2 (according to google that is something to do with ABS and could trigger the ABS and traction control lights (I have the SLIP and VDC OFF lights on)

I ran Live data for the Throttle Position Sensor and got a little above 0.7 v, no matter how much I pressed the gas pedal...I'm guessing the 0.7+v is a default volts for idle.

I ran live data on the ABS speed sensors and with the car travelling at high high idle (about 6 mph) all the wheel sensors showed a similar speed on all 4 corners

At this point I think all the lights and the symptom are due to a bad Throttle Body.

BUT - I did replace the clock spring on Aug 5th, after having a previous clock spring lasting about 2 months. In April I bought a cheap clock spring and after 2 months the airbag light started flashing. I asked for a warranty replacement and installed it on Aug5. That replacement got rid of the flashing airbag light...Could a bad clock spring trigger the VDC and SLIP lights? Though the Yaw sensor behind the clock spring is original to the car (the replacement clock spring doesn't come with that sensor). I can see the YAW sensor having to do with VDC, but think the ABS sensor would have to do with the SLIP light.

I am still thinking it is the Throttle Body, but puzzled how it would just die without warning.

Thoughts?

You're scanning the wrong stuff. P2122/P2127 are pedal sensor (APP) codes, not throttle sensor (TPS) codes. SInce both channels are reading low, I'd say the problem is unlikely to be wiring, it's probably an APP that came apart on the inside. The C1131 is derivative (the ABS squawking because the ECM isn't sending an APP signal) and will go away when you fix the underlying issue in the engine system.

VStar650CL thanks for the reply. Are you saying that the issue could be the throttle pedal?

I think so too

Please let me know (if you have a part number that would be awesome :-) )

Yep. The APP is built into the pedal assembly. Visit InfinitiPartsDeal.com and feed it your VIN, then you can look up the pedal assembly and be sure you're getting the right number for your ride.

Oh- PS - Make sure the electrical connector at the pedal didn't just unseat somehow. There's no feeling worse than buying a part and then finding out it simply wasn't connected.

@VStar650CL OMG it is fixed, thank you for pointing me to the pedal. I was looking to see if the connector came loose and found these pieces. I instantly recognized them as the rubber stop I see on my 350z brake and Clutch (And I guess there is one on the ACCL pedal too huh?) .

Took the pedal out (the hardest part was that plastic piece that holds the hood latch), and luckily I had spare rubber stops for my 350z. Put it on and plugged it back in and started the car...the SLIP and VDC light went away....by hand, I was able to rev up the engine and idle came back down to around 800. Reinstalled the pedal and this time the hardest part was getting the cable for the hood latch back on to the handle.

I used my scanner (Autel MaxiDiag MD806 Pro - don't know why but it is VERY slow) to clear ALL the codes out.

Since the pedal without the rubber stop would swing more up, I guess the voltage went too low from the position sensor.

If you have a recommendation for a different scanner PLEASE let me know...it took about 15 minutes to do a full scan...once it found a fault in the BCM it took at least 5 minutes to get to the actual screen to show Read Fault, Erase Fault, Live Data screen....I am tired of it!!

Join the club, the Nissan Consults we use at the shop are about the most turtle-slow pieces of turtle crap you can imagine. I'm no expert on aftermarket, but guys here keep saying nice things about the Foxwell lineup.
