Just a couple of days ago, my G35 transmission started to grind very slightly when i short shift from 4th to 6th under moderate acceleration. Feels like a synchro problem, I've seen similar issues on saabs, similar as in the noise and feel through the shifter, and what else makes me think it may be a synchro problem is that when I double-clutch the problem goes away. Any ideas?

Hey there and Welcome to NICO!

It sounds like a synchro noise to me.I could not say with complete certainty without driving the car, but that's what it sounds like.

Have you had the fluid changed and used the correct replacement?

Do you still have a warranty?

Yeah, it's still under the powertrain warranty. I was going to take it in next week, but as I said, I can keep it from happening by double clutching, which I usually do any what, but not when i short shift. With confirmation of my thoughts on the issue, the synchro should be covered under warranty. On a side note, while I was under the car last night, (I was doing some routine maintenance), I felt the inside the transmission, and the fluid level seems like it might be just a hair low, but my driveway isn't completely level so I can't be certain that it wasn't simply the way that the car was sitting. I'll take it to the dealership next week and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help.

It's being replaced at the dealership under warranty. Course, the service writer calls me bac and lets me know that they'd like to do about two grand worth of "maintenance." I told him to give me a list so that I can decide which services to do when, which, of course, means so that I can just do the **** myself. But the good news is that I've got a new, or at least reman'd transmission and it doesn't cost me a dime.

That's good to hear.

What did they recommend you do?

Have you been neglecting your regular maintenance?
