Hi,

I've searched the owner's manual to no avail. Two questions if I may,When in headlight Auto mode, how do I cancel the 45 seconds that the lights remain on, after I shut off the car? (Without turning the light switch to manual off.) Or at least reducing the duration down to say 5 seconds.Second question, is there a way to turn down the brightness on the instrument panel during the daytime? In the owner's manual this fuction exists but only when the headlights are on, but I find the brightness too high during cloudy days.

Thanks and sorry if a repeat post. Chris...

Welcome to NICO!!

I'd be interested in that too...but I don't think it's something we can change. They did add the timer function on the next gen on the G35 (and probably the G37 too).

The brightness can only be adjusted when the lights are on (as you mentioned). Maybe our techs know???

Straight from the FSM:

"Delay timer control mode can be changed by the function setting of CONSULT-II."

Sounds like the dealer can reprogram it. But, I'm not really sure why you'd bother. If you want them out sooner, just turn them off? You want a 5 second delay? By the time you turn off the car and get out, they'll be off. Just turn them on/off manually. Problem solved.

I read into the FSM further. Here are your options for the dalay:

MODE 1 (45 sec.)/MODE 2 (OFF)/MODE 3 (30 sec.)/MODE 4 (60 sec.)/MODE 5 (90 sec.)/MODE 6 (120 sec.)/MODE 7 (150 sec.)/MODE 8 (180 sec.)

I would prefer to just have the lights go off with the engine being shut down when in Auto mode. (Our other vehicle, Nissan Quest's delay is adjustable with a rotary dial.) With the day time running lights being on and the bright interior dash lights, its easy to forget to turn on the lights at night when in the city.

Nit picking I guess. I'll drive over to the dealer and have them reset the delay to mode 2 (off).

Thanks all.Chris...

I've talked to my dealer service rep, he apparently is not aware that this is something that can be done, or should be done for that matter. He will have to check as no one asked for this feature to be modified before....

On my new Mitsubishi Outlander, I had the dealer change a setting to unlock all the doors with the passkey (it's one of those, you don't need a key to get in or start the vehicle). It was a pain in the neck to be able to unlock the drivers' door, but then have to hit the unlock button when I wanted to get into the rear seat...so now it will unlock all doors.

The process was the same...the dealer had to reprogram the PCM. If I had the NAV unit, there is a setting that the owner can change.

I'm sure the G35 is the same way. Just don't the the dealer give you a line of BS that you cant do that, just because they have never done in in the past and don't know how.

If he says they can't do it, print out the pages from the FSM. It gives you step by step directions.
