I've always loved Nissan's cars but the Frontier never really sold me, until now. The 2005 Frontier looks pretty sweet, and they are even packing VQ power in there this time. Finally they realized sticking a supercharger on an old engine design doesnt really cut it.

But my question is, why is this motor 'rated' at 250hp/270lb torque? It's a DOHC 4 valve per cylinder engine with C-VTC and all the goodies that make the VQ35DE so sweet and the displacement is even higher. Is this going to be a major under-rating for marketing sake? i'd bet that 4.0l is putting out significantly more power than any of the VQ35DE out there.

I can't wait for some real testing on that new frontier, i really really want one already and i've only seen pics and read a little.

Freshalloy has a small article about it too.

I'm possibly thinking about having two cars in the future. I may get a truck for one of them. The Titan is nice, but probably not very practical for me and perhaps a bit pricey if I want two cars. Especially if my other car will be a G.

As far as the power, read the article on FA. They speculate a little on that. But I think the 250 HP may be a realistic goal. A truck is made to move heavier items and needs more low-end torque to have better drivability while hauling a load or towing something. Considering the Titan is only rated at 300 HP with a 5.6L, the 250 would not be too bad. If you want a sports car motor, buy a sports car.

I thought about the whole truck motor/low end torque thing as well, but its also got the C-VTC so if they do try to hit some majorly low end torque its going to be rediculously torquey. I just cant wait to see more info, i love trucks almost as much as i love my 240.

There is nothing wrong with that with a truck. Keeping in mind, if you are towing something heavy, it would be very hard to get the truck to start moving without enough torque. Secondly, there is more of a constant load when hauling or towing something heavy. If you were to use a motor with high revving abilities, you'ld have to keep the gear lower and revs higher. Gas mileage would go way down under those circumstances.
