Just bought a 2005 altima at insurance auction. The air bags are popped and the engine will not start. When I turn on key the starter tries to spin the engine, but there is some device locking the engine. I put a rachet and socket on the crank pully nut and the engine will spin ccw but is locked in the clockwise direction. How do you reset this system or what is locking my engine? Come on Nissan mechanics lend a hand

ive never heard of anything locking out the starter before, most of the time when an engine wont start after a wreck its because the fuel pump ( on most vehicles ) has a safety switch that will trip and will shut off the fuel pump, and it requires being reset before it will work again, as for the starter issue i have no idea, how bad was it wrecked?

Not a bad collision. The car hit a deer and popped both air bags. The starter is trying to do its job, but something is locking the engine in the clockwise rotation only.
