I am new to the forum, so forgive me if this topic has been exhausted already, but I have been having problems with my rotors and pads on my 2005 350Z. Mileage was at 18,000 when I first experienced a bad metal to metal wearing noise, and high level of squealing noise during normal driving. The dealer replaced the front rotors and pads and the noise disappeared for a while, now it is back and the brake warning light stays illuminated at all times.

I get the impression the brakes were unspec'ed and I was thinking of installing a set of high performance Brembo calipers, brakes. Has enyone else experienced brake problems? Is anyone installed Brembo calipers/brakes and if so what is your assessment?

Have you even thought to check your rear pads? You said they replaced your fronts only. There's a thread on here about the rear brakes wearing before the fronts. Search and you'll find it.

Need to down shift and save those brakes guys... check your back brakes or have them replaced as well just went thru the same BS on my girlfriends car. I changed her brakes (she insisted on cheap ones) they started squeaking and got warped in no time. So she wanted them replaced with better front brakes, i told her i should look at the back brakes (drums), and i she turned down the idea because she didn't want to spend the money - which now she complains about how she has brand new really good brakes but she hears the squeaking from the back brakes now and the brakes only feel a tiny bit better, which is because the drums need done which will get done when she wants to fork out the cash..... P.S. i rent a caliper tool kit from advanced for $100 which you get a full refund when you return it, but this kit reduces my brake changing time dramatically! I changed her brakes the last two times in my driveway in 20 mins from start (jacking the car up) to finish (pumping the brakes when finished).

I agree! haha, I'd rather replace brakes than have to drop the transmission any day.

I down shift but only when cornering so I’m at a better RPM when I come out of the turn. I’m unaggressive about it too, not causing the engine to scream at a high RPM when I release the clutch in the lower gear. I don't down shift as I'm approaching a red light or stop sign. There's no reason to. But, I agree, it’s cheaper to replace brakes than it is a transmission/clutch.

You mean you down shift before the turn...

I agree I also downshift when driving "spirited" but I don't down shift to slow down. Thats what the brakes are for.

Correct. I don't down shift in the turn.

You guys might call it lame, but I've gotten the habit of downshifting about 80% of the times I slow down. I don't aggressively downshift unless I'm driving hard, though. It makes me feel like I'm getting to know the car better by learning how to rev match and heal-toe in any situation. I use the experience when I do any kind of Auto X or fun in a parking lot or getting on the track. It doesn't use up the clutch too bad if you are good at matching revs.
