That report is a little misleading. When you are talking about % change, the base number is more important. I.E. Nissan has barely broken 700,000 sales but Chevy and Ford have 2.3 Million.
25% of 706,006 is 176,501.505% of 2,304,036 is 115,201.8
Even with that 60,000 lead in percent change of sales, Chevy and Ford still dominate total sales. These two companies represent a 1/3 of all cars sold, combining for 4.6 million of the 14.2 million cars sold. To say that Suzuki is now a market contender because of there near 30% increase is absurb, so it is also not logical to say that Nissan is now a bigger player in the market.
According to my math, Toyota is number 3 in total sales, followed by Dodge at 1 million. Nissan is at number 6 in total sales. The American manufacturer leaders, Ford and Chevy, better figure out the appeal of the big gainers, and hold onto their share of the market. Or they may end up down there with Dodge and begin to lose their share. Here is a quick spread sheet and graph, it's only 21K.
