Our 2004 SL has had its transfer case replaced twice. First at 78,000 then again 9000 miles later. Now, at 112000, we are looking at our third transfer case. Of course, Nissan says the transfer case is not the transmission so the extended 120,000 warranty does not apply. We would be interested in hearing from other owners who have had similar problems. We are contemplating filing a Lemon Law arbitration under the law of our state (WA) but would rather just be done with this white elephant of a car.

Yes, the 2003 and 2004 (possibly some 2005) Muranos have experienced a high number of transfer case failures. I would see if a 2006-up transfer case will fit your car, as they seem to hold up well. My 2006 S/AWD is still on its original transfer case w/ 93,000 miles on it, and with the harsh winters we get up here, it's still going strong... My plan is to dump the car as soon as enough of my loan is paid up to where I won't roll over anything into the next loan... I love this car, but even minor repairs on these can be VERY costly.
