Car: 2004 Nissan Frontier 3.3 Supercharged

Post

New to any thread, so sorry if I'm not up on abbreviations. Someone gave me a 2004 supercharged frontier, immaculate interior, body is straight, one owner, but rod knocking horribly. Cheapest I've seen a 3.3 motor to swap is around 2k. I can get a non supercharged 3.3 for 500-700 all day long. Will the non supercharge motor work with just hook up and go? Or can I take all the externals off my supercharged motor and put on a non supercharged? Just wanting the cheaper fix for my son. Any input would be helpful. I have $0 in the truck now

at minimum you'd need the non SC ECU, I would think. Beyond that, it's the same block and everything should bolt up. The accessory drives might be a little different since there isn't a blower to spin on a non SC motor.

I recently did this. The engine is the same. You'll need to swap over (from the supercharged engine) the supercharger, throttlebody -> supercharger plenum, supercharger -> intake manifold plenum, intake manifold, injectors, crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer), idler pulley bracket with pulleys (the one sharing the belt with the supercharger, crankshaft pulley, and AC compressor), and AC compressor pulley (or just the whole AC compressor). You'll also need to use the throttle cable and ECU/ECM from the supercharged car, obviously. Don't forget to use high octane gas. I suspect failures in these SC engines are due to owners using low octane.
