What I want to know is if I put a sr20det is there a auto trans that I can use? She doesn't know how to drive a stick I have been trying to teach her for months and she just doent get it . So if any of you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it thanks again.

So, I'm assuming its a low model Sentra thats Auto? I almost doubt that a SR20DET comes with Auto, but i may be wrong. But how much money is she willing to spend on this? There are a lot of other things needed besides an engine.

I'm assuming its a 1.8L?

Yes its possible if you have about 5-6k to do it right. Personally I think its not worth modding a QG18 with bolt ons you don't gain all that much from it

You could use the auto trans off an 00-01 Sentra or 00-02 G20 with ease. Older 2.0 Sentra/G20 autos would fit too, but they'll have more wear and tear.

IMO just leave the 1.8 in, throw bolt ons on it, and let her have fun with that. It's a DD, keep it simple.

yeah if you wanna sr20det you will have to get a manual trans. if you wanna keep it auto just get basic bolt ons. you could always do like my wife and get a couple mods and equal stickers.

But you are right about it being better to stick to basic mods.

Yea its a 1.8L I dont think modding the stock motor is worth it either I mean Exhaust an intake but thats it. So there is no auto trans that will bolt up to the sr20?

Ok sweet she will be happy to here that. Moneys not really that much of an issue with her, her parents give her almost everything. Im going to UTI here in charlotte in Jan. so I will prob be doing the swap myself to save with the cost. Which transmission is better and stronger out of the sentra or G20 or are they both the same? Thanks alot guys.

So im going to need-SR20DET motor 00-01 sentra transmission. is this transmission out of a SE-R or just the base model?Wiring harness from both carsECU from SR20DETfront and rear motor mounts out of 00-01 sentra and cross member (correct me if im wrong)

shift_jin: I'm sure some JDM/EDM Avenirs and Bluebirds had AT's. Regardless, a US AT will bolt up to the DET anyway.

To the OP:

I don't see why she needs all this power for her daily. Also, this engine is likely to be older and, therein, less reliable. Again, I have to suggest that she just do bolt-ons and go from there. I have to wonder if she really wants to dive in this far into modding from the start. You'd best ask her before you dive into this car's innards. Just my opinion, so have at it if this is what she really wants to do.

But, since you asked then here goes:

SR20DETJust the US harness from a 00-01 Sentra, it will plug right into the 1.8 dash harness anyway.F/R motor mounts and crossmemberUS AT trans (though I suppose the Jap/Euro one would work too, but it may not like the ECU - I'll explain in a minute)

Now for the hairy explanation:The ECU in the DET would mate up to the US harness just fine. In that same vein, you COULD put the Japanese harness in the car and it would work. The same goes for the Japanese auto trans.

However, this car will not pass emissions using a JDM ECU since it won't have all the OBDII software it needs. Your options are as follows:

1) Piggyback computer on a US 00-01 Sentra SE ECU (There was no SE-R, SE is the top trim and is the only one with an SR)2) Contact Jim Wolf Technology and see if they have some method of making the JDM ECU recognize OBDII or at least throw off an "all-O.K."3) Use a B14 200SX SE-R (95-98) or B14 Sentra SE-L (99) tuned by JWT to work with the DET you have. This will make her cruise control not work (B14 didn't have CC) and requires that you figure out the difference in pin-outs for the 95-99 ECU vs the 00-01 harness.

This is yet another reason why I suggest you stick to bolt ons on the 1.8.

Also the engine you linked is a JDM SR20DE. It's also listed under the wrong name (there is no G20 in Japan, it's called the Nissan Primera there). That DE makes a little more power than a US DE because of higher compression, fyi.

Thanks alot man. For now were just going to stick to basic mods and if she want to go through with a swap we will go over all this and then I guess we will just go from there. you talk about her having cruise control she doesnt have it so I dont think she will car losing it.

I guess it was an option on 1.8 models.

DO NOT run an auto on a sr20det,it will kill it quickly and then you'll be screwed,g20 people have turbo'd auto's before only to have them fail 4-6 months later and then end up going to a 5spd.Trust me,teach your chick to drive a stick and swap a 5 speed,it's not that much work.
