Being cheap, I bought a used Denso sensor on Amazon. 234-5060. The box was correct, the part wasn't. Part was a 4 wire sensor and it should be 6 wire. Lesson learned. I also had a sensor that I got on ebay for cheap that is supposedly a Nissan OE part. I installed the ebay sensor since I had the cowling and top tray off. After starting and driving the van a couple or three times the CEL light is back.

I am seeking advice on how to proceed. Assume the sensor is junk and get the correct Denso part and install it? The cat measured about 30 degrees F difference from intake to exit with a IR heat gun.Install a standoff on the ebay sensor I have in now?

The last time I removed the intake plenum I didn't have a new gasket so reused the old one. That was over a year and several thousand miles ago. I don't hear a hissing noise, it is running apparently fine. Although I'm cheap I want to do the right thing and get this issue fixed. Thanks in advance.

What codes(s) are you getting? Older Nissan ECM's almost all compare the front sensor with the back, which can sometimes make it blame the wrong party. Without knowing what the ECM detected, it's very difficult to give you meaningful advice. One thing I will advise you, there's lots of counterfeit stuff on eBay and Amazon, not just gray market. Stick with a Nissan-authorized discount house like NissanPartsDeal or CourtesyNissan if you want OE. If you go aftermarket, Denso and NTK (mainly Denso) make virtually all of Nissan's A/F and HO2S sensors, so stick with one of those.

P1273 is the code. Would you advise replacing both front sensors? I read on Rockauto that replacing pairs is advisable. I also saw that Denso is being bought by NTK.

Replacing both is a good idea on cars with front O2's, but yours has A/F's and not O2's. I've never seen any point in replacing A/F's that way, they're wideband and either work right or don't. P0173 is usually a slow A/F, but two things first. Have an assistant partially block the exhaust and check for pinhole leaks near either the A/F or the rear HO2S, either one will cause extra oxygen in the pipe that can fool the sensors. Then monitor your HO2S on that bank, cruising with the cats lit you should see swings from below 0.3V to above 0.6V with a swing rate of about 2 seconds. The rate will probably be okay (it would be throwing a P0139), but if the voltage is under-responding or flatlined then the ECM may be blaming the wrong culprit. If both of those check out, replace the A/F.

Denso sensor did the trick.
