2004 qx56 surges under moderate acceleration

While moderately accelerating (like after depressing resume on the cruise) the engine surges and won't pull. Back off the throttle and it recovers until get back into throttle. In the old days I would say fuel filter but guess this thing does not have one so am wondering fuel pump ?

Starts and idles fine.
No codes.

the fuel filter is a part of the fuel pump. its inside the tank.

could be the fuel pump/sending unit, could also be the IPDM.

first thing is to pull any DTCs from the OBD port and start there.
