The story: 2004 Quest SE. Drove to a store. On way back suddenly it seemed the ABS was trying to engage and the slip light was blinking. It had no reason to do as it was non-wet. non-snow day. So I stopped, switched off the car and checked around. When I started the car and drove away, the ABS,SLIP, VDC lights came on. At that time the ABS was no more trying to engage. Drove back home, checked for code and found P1574 (speed sensor). Few months back I changed a wheel bearing and had to replace the speed sensor (with a generic). I thought that cheap sensor went bad. I replaced with a new one. Seems like that speed sensor wasn't the problem. Rear brakes were worn. Changed rotors and pad. Reset the ECM twice, the code came back.

Since then I have driven quite a bit. The car does not go into limp mode, and the Cruise control still works except one time when I switched on it was blinking. On the next trip it was working again. The 3 lights and the P1574 codes are still on.

What else can I do? Is there a way to check the other three wheel speed sensors? Any help, suggestion appreciated.

Thanks

traihan

Possible causes:
Harness or connectors of the Communication Area Network (CAN) communication line is open or shorted
Combination meter circuit is open or shorted
Faulty Combination meter
Faulty Vehicle speed sensor
Faulty Transmission Control Module

What does this mean? When is the code detected?
ECM detects a difference between two vehicle speed signals is out of the specified range.

Possible symptoms
Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) (Cruise Control System) inoperative

P1574 Nissan Description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives two vehicle speed sensor signals via Communication Area Network (CAN) communication line. One is sent from combination meter, and the other is from TCM (Transmission control module). The ECM uses these signals for Automatic Speed Control Module (ASCD) control.

I'm not sure if it's a possibility on a 2004, but a more advanced code reader/scanner as far as I'm aware should be able to pinpoint which wheel speed sensor is acting up.

Thanks PoMansVan for you reply. When you say more advanced scanner, do you mean a trip to the dealership is required? or regular shop would have an advanced scanner scanner.

Thanks

Depends on the shop. Some of them have more advanced scanners, others would say it's a dealer job.

But on 2004 the very first thing you want to check is corrosion of the ECU housing.
