Hi,

I have a 2004 Pathfinder and I have just ordered a class 3 hitch from the dealer. However, they wanted to change me $150 to install the hitch. Is it a difficult thing to do? I am a handy person and the installation looks simple, only a few bolts and all the holes are pre-drilled. The dealer make it sounds like a difficult job, the guy told me I need power tools and need to adjust the hitch properly. Does it worth $150? Please let me know your opinion. Thanks.

Tom.

The wiring harness is the hard part, The interior panels have to come off to gain access to the harnesses to install the convertor and hook up to the tail lights. The installation of the hitch itself is fairly easy.

oh yea 150 sounds very resonable for that job.

No, the $150 is just for installing the hitch, no wiring. I am trying to install the hitch myself now but I am having a hard time to take the plate (bolt on the car originally) off from the frame. What was the plate for? There one on each side.

One more question, I bought a Reese wiring kit but like you said the interior panels need to come off first. How do I take them off? Where to start, I don't see any screws except the screws on a plate by the door. Do I start from there? Please let me know. Thanks.

I assum the plate your talking about is the ones with the little loops on them? If so those are for tie down on the transporter for shipping. You dont need them really.

To get all the panels off is like a puzzle, pull up the sill plate at the base of the hatch opening ,then you need to remove anything bolted in the whole lower quarter trim al the way to the rear door opening then you can pull the panel away from the wall it also has clips to hold it in place so it will require a bit of a tug to pop it free. Just may sure all the cargo net hooks and seat belt anchors are removed before pulling on it. then you will have access to the well to pull your harness through and plug it in, you need to do this on both sides.
