Hi, my girl has a 04 pathfinder with less than 60k miles, she is experiencing a noise under acceleration that sound a lot like a heat shield near the mid point of the vehicle. The problem is I can't make it happen easily while the car is standing still on Neutral. I have tried to calm my firl about the noise by telling her its just a heat shield but she insists on bring it to a dealer and I am sure they will take advantage of her. The car runs fine , has anyone had a noise like this? I have thought maybe it was a cracked header because it tens to go away as the car warms..

Any advice would be great thanks.

Tony

Had a similar "problem" on my '02 Pathfinder when I first got it.I don't really consider it a problem though. It's just annoying. The fix was to go under my truck and bend/reform some of the heat shields/plates that run along the exhaust system. Some of them were almost touching so that when the truck was running, they would rattle.Don't go to a dealer. They'll rob you blind.Easy fix.

Haha. I just cut the damn heat shields away. My heat shields started rattling so it was pretty much useless anyways.
