Is it correct that my 2004 pathfinder LE 4WD only has lower ball joints and the suspension link on the top? Auto parts stores had upper ball joints available..

Thanks!

You can find the factory service manuals here:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Pathfinder/2004_Pathfinder/

Look in the su section (for suspension) and you will find an exploded view of your suspension.

You only have a lower ball joint. The upper suspension is Macpherson strut. There is a thrust bearing or strut bearing in the strut assembly that allows the strut to turn when you turn the wheels. If that goes bad, it can cause a rattle or knock sound over bumps.

Hope that helps!

They were probably for the Pathfinder Armada, which does have upper control arms instead of struts.

It wasn't until the 2005 model that it branched out into just Armada. I had a similar "huh?" moment when the parts guy asked if my 04 had the V6 or V8, to which I replied, "there wasn't a V8 in 04". The Armada had the V8.
