2004 Nissan Terrano engine failure

Relocated to the Dominican Republic and purchased a 2004 Nissan Terrano (sold primarily in parts of Europe, Latin America and Australia I was told). Excellent condition with 16,000km. According to specs powered by a ZD30Ti diesel engine. 19,000km later at 35,000 km the engine failed. According to the local foreign trained mechanic, after research on the Internet, he said that he discovered reports of many such failures at around 50,000 km with that engine. Does anyone know a resource to find information about this engine and any premature failure problems? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
