I really need some help. My car was running rough and I had to try and start sometimes up to 7 time to get engine to to turn over and start. It was acting like there was an air/fuel mixture issue to me, and smelled like it was running lean. I took to a certified Nissan shop and the guy changed the battery and put a new starter in it. I had someone read the error codes prior to taking to that shop and the code was o2 sensor bank 1.
I told the man this and he said that is not correct???? So after he changed battery and starter I was driving to try and clear emissions codes, but got so sleepy I could not continue that day. I drive car home no check engine light at this point driven 40 miles. Later same night I start to take a short drive and when I turned ignition off and removed key, there was this weird noise coming from under the hood. My car the only noise it makes after I shut it off is the oil dripping pack into the pan, well I popped the hood to see where this odd noise was coming from and it was right about the spot where the starter is, it would not disengage so it continued on until it burnt itself out, smoke and all. I am 60yrs old lady fixed income so was panicking, had car taken home disconnected the positive battery terminal and. I would like to know what the driving cycle is for 2004 nissan 2004 sentra 1.8. Work done since starter fried. New starter installed, 4 new spark plugs, both 02 sensors replaced, now waiting on a fuel pump, once that is installed, I need to know the drive cycle to get the ECM codes into the computer reset. I am female LOL. CAn anyone please answer the drive cycle question? Please? The smog people are telling me if it does not pass after all this I have to spend 585.00 at a shop that is G2 certified, I am already 2,000.00 into repairs. Note, I didnt take car back to the nissan certified shop as the guy there tried to tell me that a bad ignition switch caused the starter to fail. There is nothing wrong with the ignition switch. When all is said and done and I can drive it without the hesitation etc I am going to take that bad starter to first tech and ask for my money back. Again please can anyone tell me the drive cycle on a 2004 sentra 1.8 Thanks in advance At this point I know way more about the emissions system on my car than I really wanted to I am an IT person not an auto mechanic, but can sometimes pin point the actual problem of a car just by sound and behavior. Old and nearly broke the repairs took all my savings sigh..... Oh and mileage is 81,000 miles on the car. Last note, I now wish I had kept my 1988 200sx, ran like a top owned it for 17 years only 170,000 miles on it when I sold it. oh and the 2004 sentra 1.8 is manual trans as was the 88, 200sx. I like stick as you have so much better control of your vehicle when driving i. All the numbers showing how many time this post was viewed are the edits I have made to the post.

Question: How do you know it's not your ignition switch that failed for sure? That's certainly what it sounds like to me is that the ignition switch stuck on start and fried your starter.
