I am having a problem with my radio/CD player. This is what happened and everyone seems to think its just a coincidence....I was driving down the road and something must have fallen off of a truck and I accidentally ran it over. It was a very hard thumb. I got nervous I damaged my car but there were no scratched or anything. About 30 seconds after this happened I started to smell burning, and there was smoke coming out of the tape deck.

When I got home I checked out my care everything was fine, but I get no sound from the radio, or cd player. The screen stills works, I am able to change cd's, and radio stations but no sound will come out. I had my boyfriend check the fuses. What could this be? I would really appreciate any help!

sounds like your audio unit has shorted out. Sorry but Nissan units are not very reliable.

Does that mean I need an entire new radio? I know its a BOSE system... Thanks for your response.

When you hit the bump you may have lost your ground. That will be a tough one to diagnose.

Unless someone has been messing around in your dash, it is very unlikely that a wire has shorted. If smoke was comming from your audio unit, it is most likely the unit itself. There is always a possibility of something else, but your chances are slim.

I have a 2004 Murano also and my stereo stopped working a few months back. There was a loud 'pop' sound and since then there has been no sound. I haven't wanted to go through a dealership to have the radio fixed, but am not having much luck otherwise. I would love to hear if you fixed your stereo, what the problem was and how much it cost to fix. It seems like a lot of people have had the similar problem, Nissan should recall the stereos!

My first question is - do you have young kids? We had the same problem - went over a very big bump, heard a loud "pop" and the radio would not work. The tuner would scan and not stop on any stations - the cd player would work like it was playing, but no sound.... Turns out what probably happened is when we hit the bump, the coins my daughter (2 1/2 years old) decided to deposit into the tape player slot jumped up and shorted out a few things - namely the regulator, a transistor and a diode. I took the unit out and gave it to a local repair shop - they replaced said items and $150 bucks later I have a fully functional unit. Hope this helps....
