Hi Guys,

I am new here and will really appreciate your feedback.

I have 2004 nissan maxima and cpuple of months back my "service engine soon" light turned on. I went to dealership and while doing oil change they performed complimentary diagnostic on my car and gave me codes for the " service engine soon".

The codes are P1051 and P1168. What does this mean and how do i fix these issue, if any.

Thanks in advance.

Mav.

Welcome to NICO.

Both codes point to Bank 2 (Left) Sensor 1 (Front) Air-Fuel (A/F) sensor, a.k.a. Oxygen sensor. P1051 is for heater control circuit low while P1168 is for inoperative closed loop control function. Check the O2 sensor connector and harness. If Ok, then it's the A/F (O2) sensor that needs to be replaced. At the dealer, this sensor will cost almost $200 but you can get one from Sparkplugs.com for less, or if you're lucky, much less at Amazon. I believe it's NGK 24320 but check with vendor before you buy.

If you are doing the replacement, it's recommended to buy an O2 sensor socket, @ $10, to facilitate removal/installation.
