The overhead light switch on the control panel on the ceiling in my Maxima has broken. This is the second time that it has happened and for some reason, when the switch breaks (literally the plastic), it shorts out my tail lights and some of my dash lights. (the broken switch is the one in the middle that has 3 positions- On/Door/Off)

Last time it cost me over $300 to fix because the entire panel that controls the sun roof and lights had to be replaced.

Does anyone have any advice or ways to get around this?

I was thinking that somehow I could bypass the switch and it wouldnt short everything out. On the other hand, all the fuses in the Driver side box and under the hood are still good.

Thanks for the help
