I have a 2004 Murano which does about 35000rpm and 20MPH when its cold. I know the cvt isn't like a normal Trans. but it sounds like its stuck in first gear. I can't get more than 25MPH out of it until its been run for 10 mins or so. anyone know where i might look for the cause?

Thanks

Do you know when the last fluid change was? That's where I would start. If you are going to do a change, keep in mind that it is a special blend and using regular stuff will destroy it.

Crap. If I remember correctly, Midas changed the trans fluid last winter as part of an oil-change package deal. I bet that screwed it up.

What gets messed up from using the wrong fluid (gaskets/seals/etc) ? Any way to prove their fluid change screwed it up? I'll most likely need some pretty hard proof to get them to pay for anything.

If they put the wrong fluid in and it lasted this long I would be quite surprised. I'm not sure what gets messed up, but I know pretty sure it's the the point of being more to rebuild than buy a new one from the dealer. I'd start looking for that receipt pretty soon.

just an update in case anyone else is having this problem... took the murano into the dealer and they replaced the trans under warranty. apparently they didnt think the fluid was the issue. nice. it would have been several thousands of dollars in repairs otherwise.
