I am the owner of a 2004 Maxima. The windows sometimes spontaneously open themselves when the car is turned off and locked. This normally happens when I am away from the car. When I leave the car, all windows are up and doors are locked. When I return to the car, the windows are down, but the doors are still locked. Has anybody experienced something like this before? If anybody knows anything about this, please help me out!

Welcome to NICO.

I would guess that you have a problem with your master control switch on the drivers door.

Check your connections.. Maybe one of the wires got frayed and its grounding against the door metal!

Do you know where I can find one of these master control switches?

While no help with your issue, my 2k2 has recently started acting up. Passenger window, during roll up, acts as tho something is tripping the safety mech. It rolls up, then rolls back down 1/4 of the way.

Annoying, but no big issue at this point.

Ok: an update.Had the car in at the shop. They de-activated something in the key fob that rolls the windows down after you hold the unlock button for 3 seconds. So far, no problems with the windows going down by themselves, but sometimes, while driving, the car unlocks itself. Any ideas on this issue??

What exactly did they undo in the fob? Mine does this sometimes too because I carry my keys inmy back pocket and end up sitting on the unlock button... Several times Ive came outside to find my car sitting there "open". The only way mine unlocks itself is if you tru to lock it with the keys in the ignition. Maybe you accidentaly hit the lock button instead of the windows...?

Try taking your keys off the fob and driving for a while (without the fob). If problems cease, then we can be pretty sure it's fob-related. I'm still fairly sure that it's something to do with the window window controller in the car itself.

I know about how the cars unlock themselves with the keys in the ignition, but that is normal for the 2004-2006 model years. It is so you do not lock the keys in the car. My problem is that the car IS unlocked and it still tries to unlock itself. I'm fairly sure it is a problem with the fob. I took it off and have had no problem for a while now.
