2004 M45 Navigation system questions

Hi,

I recently inherited a great 2004 M45 from my Dad. It only has 40K miles on it. It's a great car and I'm really enjoying it but I'm pretty clueless about these vehicles. First of all it seems many, many controls run through the display screen. I guess if that screen dies you are dead in the water as far as heat/volume things like that? Would the only option be trying to find a used one somewhere? Mine works fine, but since the car is a 2004 I'm worried about it going out someday.

Also while I'm on this topic, is there a way to turn off the navigation screen or at least have it default to the music selection screen? The maps are way out of date anyway. I do not have the manual for the car.

I'm going from memory here- but think you can
1. select "Info" on the dash button
2. Scroll down to "display" and select with the joystick button
3. Choose "audio/climate dual display" or similar, forget the exact option.

I think this is as close as you can get to a 'music selection screen', sorry.

And again, I may have stated it incorrectly above, but you should be able to figure it out ;-)

I will try that. I just want to get off that map screen. It's way out of date anyway and my phone is my gps, so it would be nice to have another screen besides the map.
