I want to add a sub, replace the door speakers and tweeters and integrate it all with two amps (mono for the sub and dual channel for the speakers). All these items will be elemental design. Now to the important question.

What do I do with the JL Cleansweep? Do I tap into the signal at the head unit (possibly losing fader, steering wheel controls) or do I tap after the bose amp?

The cleansweep is put in at the headunit. YOu would have to cut all the wires in order to get it installed. then you need to tune it to your needs. I have heard great things about the cleansweep, but have also been told a professional install is recommended. --that cost to you is about 350 I think.

Personally, I would not do it. If you want to spend 350, buy new speakers and install them to replace the bose and then add a 100 watt mono amp with a JL Audio 10w04 sub. will sound sick and you will keep everything "stock"

why is it put at the headunit? I thought all the eq comes from the stock bose amp so wouldn't it make sense to put it after the bose amp?

What do I have to do just to add a subwoofer then? I think I'll just do that and see how I like it. Can I splice into the rear speaker lines, hook it up to a mono amp then power, connect the subs, etc and have it work?

For the cleansweep, I was told by a rep at tweeter that it will go by the headunit. He did say it could be installed in the trunk as well so that it is easier to tune whenever you want, vs. pulling the dash apart every time. Personally, I would not tackle this job. If you do you may be able to mount the unit with the cd changer in the glove box...that way its easily accessable and close to the source.

You could put the sub in the stock "sub" location in the rear deck or you could leave that and put a sub in a box in your trunk. Power will come from the battery, the remote wire just needs to hook into some power source thats on when the radio is on and off when the radio is off, LEft and Right RCA will come from a converter that take the bose sub wires from the factory amp and converts it into rca's. then the RCAs plug into your mono amp that you mount in the trunk.

Its a fairly simple install that I have been going back and forth on myself. I have a JL Audio 10w0- 4 sub that is made as a replacement for the OEM sub. I think I am going to hold off on any stereo upgrades for now. If you want the sub I will sell it for 35 plus shipping.

do you tap into the wires after the bose amp or before the bose amp for the RCA adapter?

so....Head unit-------Factory Amp-----splice into wires after factory amp-------connect to aftermarket mono amp-----plug into subs.

or Headunit------splice into wires before factory amp-------conect to aftermarket mono amp-----plug into subs.....therefor bypassing the factory bose amp.

Hello,Cleansweep is the way to go for sure. The quality of the stock speakers is embarrassing. Honestly pathetic. Remove the stock sub to provide a port for the sub in the trunk.Enjoy,Mark

Here's the best link I have ever found regarding upgrading the M45's audio system. It's a custom install with lots of pictures and painstaking details

Enjoy.
